Welcome to the website for the 33rd Judicial Circuit. I hope you find the information you need concerning your court system.
The Thirty-Third Circuit consists of Dale and Geneva County. The Circuit was formed by the Act No. 644 on November 20, 1959. Before 1959, Dale County was in the old 3rd Circuit with Barbour County, and Geneva County was in a Circuit with Covington County.
Opened in 1965, the current Geneva County Courthouse was paid for by a 20 year increase in ad valorum taxes which was passed by Geneva County residents in 1962. Construction costs totaled $600,000. Sherlock, Smith, & Adams, Inc., were the architects. The population of Geneva County is 26,790.
In 2017 in Geneva County there was 889 new Circuit Court cases filed and the breakdown was: 46% Criminal, 12% Civil, and 42% Domestic. For the same year there was 5,479 District Court cases filed and the breakdown was: 23% Criminal, 56% Traffic, 8% Small Claims, 2% Civil, 8% Juvenile, and 4% Child Support.
